"Accepting yourself is something that a lot of people struggle with. Learning to love the skin you’re in is a journey we all go through. In 2016 I learnt how to truly love myself and it’s thanks to the beautiful and strong women I have met this year. I met women who take beauty standards and actively challenge them, they constantly display that our bodies are ours and not for others to judge or ridicule. They taught me that I’m beautiful, “flaws” and all.

In saying that, I learnt that people don’t have flaws, we have differences that make us each unique and beautiful in our own way. I learnt that women don’t have to tear each other down to feel good about themselves. It’s much more rewarding helping other people love their bodies and in turn they’ll help you love yours. We as women need to stand together and empower each other. We need to show each other that it’s okay to be ourselves and that we don’t have to fit the standard. It’s okay to be thin, it’s okay to be big and it’s okay to be average. The only right way to be, is the way that makes you happy.

You don’t have to hide your body away because someone might not like it or because it’s not considered respectable. I have such incredible respect for the women who are brave enough to put themselves out there. The girls  that go to the shops without a bra, the mothers that breast feed in public, the girls out in summer wearing next to nothing because it’s hot outside. Embrace yourself and others will too. When society sees empowered women who aren’t afraid to love themselves people’s views will start to change. Our bodies will stop being taboo and be viewed as the natural, beautiful creations that they are.

This year for Christmas I received the gift of body positivity and it’s a gift I want to share with you. These are some of the incredible women I’ve met this year that have helped me love myself. I hope that in some small way they’ll help you like they’ve helped me. Happy holidays and make your new year’s resolution to love yourself."
